Brilliant Lives Cut Short

Marilyn, Van Gogh, Meriwether Lewis, Tchaikovsky - no doubt you detect a common theme.

This one comes out of "the vault," back from a year ago when I was still learning. Please overlook all my rookie mistakes - the message speaks for itself.

On May 20th, 2009 it will be a year since I found my greatest gift from God, my beautiful 15 and a half year old daughter, the light of my LIFE, and only child had gone to be with God. I'd asked people if they could evaluate her for bi-polar, as there handing her an RX for prozac after talking to the shrink for 10 minutes. My poor child also inherited from my ex, alcoholism/addiction, at 14 and a half she'd already gone inpatient twice for 35 days, had her Aunt's treated her terribbly, she was so confused, and I can never forgive myself, it was a tragic accident, yet I live with the guilt, 24/7, while if only rather than giving her a pill that Doctor had done what I'd asked, I might not be coming up on my first year without her!!! I miss my child more than life, actually I no longer have a life I just exist, and pray for the day we are re-united in Heaven.
Whats that line in the oath they take-"DO NO HARM" well he sure harmed a lot of people, but me, he might has well have stuck a knife in my heart!!! That Doctor and probably many more need to be made accountable for there actions, or lack of action!!

Hi, Anonymous. I'm so sorry to hear this. I hope you continue to publicly speak out, as you will help many people.

For years, I have been reporting on growing medical consensus that kids be properly evaluated for bipolar before being prescribed an antidepressant. Unfortunately, lazy physicians make a quick diagnosis of depression and prescribe an antidepressant with little or no follow-up.

If a kid has bipolar, an antidepressant can make the condition worse. How many more times does this have to happen?

Please-please-please keep speaking out, and let me know if you need any assistance.

My thoughts and prayers to all of you.
