On Friday, I drove two hours from my home 40 miles east of San Diego to meet up with a good friend of mine from LA in the middle of the desert. The Anza-Borrego Desert has a subtle stark beauty all its own. But this time of year, thanks to winter rains, the desert floor and slopes are loud with wildflowers.
This is a year that seasoned observers are describing as "good to very good."
